Warisha Soomro

A transformative BOLD experience

A senator in student government, an undergraduate researcher, app developer, intern and member of the Muslim Student Association and Pakistani Student Association, Warisha Soomro has been involved in a lot of activities at the University of Washington Bothell. She even played intramural flag football.

One strong influence was serving as a CEO student ambassador in the Business & Organization Leadership (BOLD) program. “Every step of the way, I internalized lessons about mindset and grit that taught me what it takes to have an impact on peers, community and career,” Soomro said.

Soomro intends to major in Applied Computing and expects to graduate by the summer 2019. In her years at UW Bothell, Soomro said she has enjoyed the perks of the campus: smaller class sizes and opportunities to build meaningful relationships with professors while having the many opportunities that come with a large university. “I felt like I had a lot of options at UW Bothell.”

Soomro is pursuing a career in product design and hopes to enter the master’s program in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. She has already demonstrated talent in this area as part of the team that won a grant from T-Mobile at the 2016 Equity & Inclusion Conference. The team developed an app, called Abroaden, to connect people from various cultures with ethnic restaurants, shops and meeting opportunities in their own communities.

Being part of the Husky 100 is a chance to meet with others who are making an impact, Soomro said.

“It’s an opportunity to get inspired and connect with individuals of varying perspectives who come together because we’ve found a way to make a positive change by doing what we love.”
