On June 15, the University of Washington Bothell held its first in-person commencement ceremony since 2019. To allow for the Class of 2022 to share the momentous occasion with graduates from 2021 and 2020 who wanted to take the ceremonial walk across the stage, the University hosted two ceremonies. The School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences and School of STEM ceremony was held at 1 p.m., and the School of Business, School of Educational Studies and School of Nursing & Health Studies ceremony was held at 5 p.m., both at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.
“You are well prepared for what is ahead of you,” UW Bothell Chancellor Kristin G. Esterberg told the graduates at the 31st annual Commencement. “Through your course of study, you have not only gained academic knowledge and the skills to get a job in your field, you have also gained the ability to think critically — a skill that is more than ever needed in this world.
“You are well poised to make a difference in our community, in our region and in our world.”
In her remarks, UW President Ana Mari Cauce said, “I hope that you will infuse all that you do with the values that we celebrate as an academic community: empathy, curiosity and integrity. Each of you has the makings of a leader, and I hope you will lead in ways that contribute to a more equitable, sustainable future.”
The Class of 2022 joins graduates of the past 30 years to bring the UW Bothell alumni network to more than 29,000.

As with the Commencement ceremonies, master’s program graduates from 2021 and 2020 were invited to participate in the Class of 2022’s Graduate Hooding Ceremony. On June 11, graduate students were honored by their faculty, mentors, family and friends for their achievement of becoming masters in their chosen fields.
