Jake Edward Tiefel, a University of Washington Bothell lecturer who ran the machining class in the mechanical engineering program, died suddenly April 26.
A Navy veteran who lived in Kent, Tiefel is remembered in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics for giving students fundamental knowledge and skills in crafting useful objects from raw materials.
Tiefel worked at UW Bothell after retiring from a 41-year career at Boeing where he won manufacturing employee of the year and master craftsman of the year awards in 1997 and 1987. He also worked as an instructor at Renton Technical College and the Oregon Institute of Technology Boeing program in Seattle.
Tiefel earned a Bachelor of Science in manufacturing engineering from the Oregon Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in engineering from Central Washington University.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Milton, Washington. More information is available in the funeral home obituary here.
