The University of Washington Bothell welcomes Shari Dworkin as the new dean of the School of Nursing & Health Studies and 16 new faculty members to the other schools for 2017.

Daryl Manullang, lecturer
With an MBA from the University of Portland in finance and global business tracks, Manullang previously taught at the University of South Florida College of Business. Areas of teaching interest for Manullang are financial analytics and modeling, investments and financial markets.
School of Educational Studies
Jeff McCormick, senior lecturer
A former teacher in Mukilteo and a principal in Bremerton, McCormick earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy at the University of Washington. Most recently McCormick was the director of assessment and student services for the Bainbridge Island School District.
School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences
Abraham Avnisan, artist-in-residence
With an MFA in art and technology studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in poetry from Brooklyn College, Avnisan creates books, mobile applications and interactive media installations. Avnisan is the co-founder and former director of The School of Making Thinking, an experimental college and residency program.
Masahiro Sugano, artist-in-residence
An award-winning documentary filmmaker (“Cambodian Son” 2014), Sugano has teaching experiences from filmmaking and animation for inner city high school students in Chicago to media production and communication theory at Loyola University, DePaul University and Columbia College. Sugano earned an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Min Tang, lecturer
Tang earned a doctorate in communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With a background as a journalist in China and expertise in new media, Tang explores information communication technology with a particular focus on China’s internet industry.
Jessica West, visiting associate professor
After earning a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, West practiced law for more than a decade and has been a faculty member in the Vermont School of Law and the University of Denver School of Law. With research and teaching specializations in criminal procedure, criminal law and criminal justice policy, West will split teaching between IAS and UW Law.
Brian Chung, post-doctoral fellow/visiting assistant professor
Currently an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii, Chung has published and taught in the areas of Chinese Americans and Chinese diasporic cultures. Chung earned a doctorate in American studies from the University of Michigan.
Karisa Butler-Wall, post-doctoral fellow/teaching associate
With a doctorate in American studies from the University of Minnesota, Butler-Wall has published and taught in the areas of gender and sexuality studies, critical health and disability studies.
Faculty members hired last year but joining in fall 2017:
Maryam Griffin, assistant professor
Griffin earned a doctorate in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a J.D. from the School of Law at University of California, Los Angeles, specializing in critical race studies. Griffin wrote “Freedom Rides in Palestine: Racial Segregation and Grassroots Politics on the Bus.”
Lee Ann Wang, assistant professor
Wang earned a doctorate from the University of Michigan’s Program in American Culture, Asian Pacific Islander American Studies. Wang wrote “Of the Law, but Not Its Spirit: Immigration Marriage Fraud as Legal Fiction and Violence Against Asian Immigrant Women.”

Arnold Lund, professor of practice – software engineering
Lund earned a doctorate in psychology from Northwestern University and engaged in research and development of human computer interaction for more than 30 years in major companies, including Microsoft and Amazon. Lund has contributed to the University of Washington Human Centered Design and Engineering Department.
Robert Dimpsey, senior lecturer – computer science
Dimpsey earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and worked for IBM and Microsoft. With expertise in cloud computing platform and applications, and web services, Dimpsey has been part-time UW Bothell faculty, teaching required core courses, electives and graduate courses.
Yusuf Pisan, senior lecturer – computer science
Pisan earned a doctorate in computer science from Northwestern University. With teaching experience at Macquarie University, University of Technology Sydney, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Harvey Mudd College, Pisan has expertise in programming, graphics, game development and interactive media design.
Nancy Kool, lecturer – computer science
Kool earned a master’s degree from Arizona State University and has been part-time faculty at UW Bothell since 2006, bringing experience in communications to CSS.
Lesley Kalmin, lecturer – computer science
Kalmin earned a master’s in computer science at Stanford and has been a software developer for a number of different companies with a focus on graphics. Teaching programming and computer graphics at UW Bothell, Kalmin is interested in increasing participation of women in computer science.
Bryan Zetlen, lecturer – computer science
Zetlen earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and clinical psychology at University of California, Los Angeles, and has been a technical adviser in transportation, cybersecurity and telecommunication. An experienced educator, Zetlen has taught computer science and mechanical engineering at UW Bothell.
