The University of Washington Bothell Class of 2017 will hold its commencement ceremony at Safeco Field.
The event on June 13 will be the first time UW Bothell has used the Seattle Mariners baseball stadium, having outgrown Hec Edmondson Pavilion where its commencements have been held since 2003.
The UW Bothell Office of Commencement worked with leaders of the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell, focus groups and campus administrators to select a venue with space for more guests for the big day.
"Safeco will allow students to bring more family and friends to the event, while allowing the entire school to still walk together, in one ceremony. ASUWB is really excited about the venue,” said Cody Thorne, ASUWB vice president.
The goal is to give each participating student 10 tickets for family and friends in the stands to cheer the graduates on the field.
“We’re working hard to make this monumental experience go as smoothly as possible for students. They worked hard for their achievements and deserve to have the best day ever,” said Lisa Walker, assistant director of ceremonies and events.
Food vendors will be open at the stadium during commencement, which is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
More information will be posted as it becomes available on the commencement website and Facebook page.
