University of Washington Bothell is still accepting applications for fall quarter for first year and transfer students in most programs, but time is running out for prospective students still making up their minds, and some high-demand majors such as computing are full.
Students who apply as the window is closing need to have everything in order – official transcripts, test scores (if applicable) and their personal statement, says Muriel Montenegro, assistant director of admissions in the Division of Enrollment Management. Applications lacking any of these requirements will prolong the process.
For the first time in its history, UW Bothell received more than 3,000 first year applications, says Steve Syverson, assistant vice chancellor of enrollment management. This first year class will include more than 760 students – more than 10 percent larger than last year. Although there are many applications from transfer students still being reviewed, the number of enrolling transfer students will be very similar to the first year number.
Time has already run out for first year students hoping for fall entry into the nursing (BSN) program. The window also has closed for transfer and post-baccalaureate RN to BSN applicants at Bothell, although the Seattle and Everett sites are still accepting applications.Several other high-demand degree programs are also full, including health studies, interactive media design, applied computing, computer engineering and computer science and software engineering.
One job of admissions representatives, such as Montenegro, is to help prospective transfers and post-baccalaureate students make sure they have the prerequisites for the degree they are seeking. They advise students on all admissions requirements and can help determine if they are competitive for their desired major.
Syverson says nearly half of the incoming first year students are first generation college students. More than 60 percent are from diverse backgrounds, and a third are Pell grant-eligible.
“We’re very pleased with the incoming class, but we have space to accommodate additional qualified students who are still seeking an exceptional educational value,” Syverson says.
