Cinnamon Hillyard, associate professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, has been named interim director of the First Year and Pre-Major Program (FYPP). The first year program provides advising, transition services and access to student research.
Hillyard, a longtime supporter of FYPP, steps in following the March 29 death of the beloved Leslie Ashbaugh following a long battle with cancer. Ashbaugh was assistant vice chancellor for academic achievement and senior lecturer in the First Year Pre-Major Program.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan Jeffords says Hillyard will serve in the role through the summer.
“Cinnamon has been involved in campus wide efforts to improve mathematics instruction, and she is committed to inclusive models for achievement in mathematics,” Jeffords said.
“Her experience in curriculum development, her campus leadership and scholarly expertise provide a great background for her new role,” Jeffords said.
