The University of Washington Bothell’s student club for mobile app developers recently won a competition for code efficiency.
The H[app]iness Development Club (HappDev) won first place and a $500 prize in the pre-hack code efficiency competition at a weekend hackathon hosted by Seattle Parks and Recreation with AT&T.
Co-director Jessica Nguyen says the HappDev team won for an application the club is developing to stream UWave Radio music to mobile phones.
The 14-hour hackathon addressed problems for Seattle Parks and Recreation. HappDev worked on a way to push notifications of Parks and Recreation events to people in the vicinity.
Nguyen says HappDev will use its prize money to purchase equipment for the club. In addition to Nguyen, other students who participated in the hackathon are Jonathan Velazquez, Burhan Nurdin, Collette Amaratunge, Donald Tran, and Jabari Barton.
