Dr. Mary Bold has been named UW Bothell’s inaugural Associate CIO and Chief eLearning Strategist. This position will support eLearning programs across the academic units and lead institutional eLearning initiatives by coordinating services, resources, infrastructure, and strategy. She will join UW Bothell on July 22.
Bold has decades of leadership in higher education and eLearning administration. She formerly served as an academic dean at the American College of Education, held a dual administrative and tenured faculty position at Texas Woman’s University in the Department of Family Studies, and served as a top executive and research officer for a private educational technology firm.
Throughout her career, she has also worked as a national consultant, helping educational institutions with assessment, accreditation, faculty development, and program planning. A textbook and journal author, Bold also contributes to international and national conferences in instructional technology, assessment, and higher education. In 2014, Dr. Bold was an invited panelist on the Internet Governance Forum of the United Nations.
From the early days of “distance learning,” Bold has published and presented research on topics such as: academic continuity, assessment of eLearning programs, online teaching and faculty training, and best practices for quality course design. In fact, she has won international juried competitions relative to quality and innovative course design.
